The book

The Money Shelf: 22 claims from 102 popular money books, checked against United States, United Kingdom and Australian records.

The book takes 22 claims that recur across 102 popular money books, from compound interest and the latte factor to index funds, Bitcoin, gold, day trading and the 4 per cent rule, and sets each one against the official records of the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

Every chapter names the claim and the books that make it, works the arithmetic for each country and ends with a verdict. Each chapter then points to the official calculators and tables, so readers can run the same test on their own numbers.

Two claims hold as stated, eight hold under named conditions, four explain less than the books say, seven are untested by the sources read, and one points the wrong way.
